If you see “You need the official WhatsApp to log in”, the problem is different: the service is rejecting the client. Repeating the QR scan or reinstalling the same APK may not solve it. A practical linking checklist
- Keep the working account intact. Do not uninstall your main messaging app or clear its storage to fix a QR problem. Save a local backup before an update.
- Refresh the QR code. Close the expired code and open a new one. Scan it directly from the main phone’s Linked devices menu. If both apps are on one phone, use a second screen to display the code.
- Check connectivity on both devices. Try another trusted Wi-Fi or mobile connection. If a VPN or proxy is interfering, test without it where the service is accessible.
- Enable automatic date and time. Correct the clock on the phone and on the computer or companion device.
- Review Linked devices. Log out sessions you no longer use. Keep sessions you recognise and still need.
- Update the official app and check the mod’s own update channel. Match the installed package before updating a mod. A higher version number alone does not prove linking compatibility.
- Pause repeated attempts. If the app asks you to wait, follow its timer. Rapid retries can add another problem without fixing the first one.
Separate a GB problem from an account or network problem
If your account already works in official WhatsApp, try linking it to WhatsApp Web. If Web links but GB does not, concentrate on the mod’s compatibility and companion support. If both fail, check the main phone, connection and account notices first. This comparison is more useful than installing several APKs in succession.
The official-app warning is not the same as an expired QR code. There is no setting on this page that can force WhatsApp’s servers to accept an unsupported client. For an important account, use the official app while checking whether the mod’s maintainer has a compatible build.

Link with phone number instead? Use it only when that option is available at both ends of the linking flow. A device pairing code is not the SMS registration code. Never share either code with a “fixer” service.

Write down the exact error, installed build, Android version and whether official WhatsApp Web works. Those details distinguish a camera problem from a mod compatibility issue.
